Kodak Retina Reflex S (034)

The first of the Retina Reflexes to take the 'S'-Series of lenses previously introduced with the Retina IIIS, this camera features shutter priority exposure, though the meter needle is not visible in the viewfinder, so this has to be preset before framing the picture. With the shutter speed chosen, the little wheel under the shutter housing is rotated to select the appropriate aperture, this also causes the meter mechanism to rotate via a string and pulley system, until the pointer lines up with the needle. This range of interchangeable lens SLR cameras differ from the norm in the use of a leaf shutter instead of a focal plane shutter. As was often the case in SLR cameras of this era, the mirror does not return to the viewing position until the shutter is recocked.
